On October 16, 2024, Zhandilda Azhigalievich Zhakupov, head of the NGO "International Human Rights Center", took part in a project of the Akimat of Almaty aimed at protecting consumer rights and drew the attention of participants to the importance of compliance with the Law on Consumer Protection, as well as the importance of pre-trial dispute settlement. In his speech, he stressed that all shops, supermarkets, markets and other representatives of medium and large businesses are required to post information on their information platforms about pre-trial dispute resolution centers, including contact details of mediators.
The introduction of a rule on pre-trial settlement, mandatory for all consumer disputes since 2019, significantly simplifies and accelerates the resolution of issues related to consumer protection. Before filing a lawsuit in court, citizens need to go through the pre—trial settlement procedure by contacting mediators, which contributes to the peaceful resolution of the conflict without the participation of the court and court costs and expenses.
Consumer protection measures are being strengthened in Kazakhstan: businesses are obliged to inform about the possibilities of pre-trial settlement. This measure helps to reduce the number of court proceedings, save time and resources of the parties, as well as increase the level of legal culture and trust in the institution of mediation.
