International Summer School of Mediation

The International Summer School of Mediation was held in Almaty from August 25 to 29, 2024. This event brought together professional mediators and experts from Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Turkey, Georgia, the USA and Germany, providing a unique platform for the exchange of knowledge and experience.

Over the course of five days, participants gained valuable knowledge and skills through training sessions and practical seminars. The program included trainings on mediation techniques, peculiarities of legal regulation and resolution of cross-border disputes. These topics are especially relevant in modern conditions of globalization and international conflicts.

The seminars were conducted by leading international mediation experts:

- Nadir Adilov (Azerbaijan) Chairman of the Mediation Council of the Republic of Azerbaijan,

- Foziljon Otakhonov (Uzbekistan) Doctor of Law, Professor of the Higher School of Judges at the Supreme Judicial Council of the Republic of Uzbekistan,

- Yakup Erikel (Turkey) Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Association of Mediators of the Turkic World,

- Irakli Kandashvili (Georgia), Chairman of the Association of Mediators of Georgia,

- Julia Zhigulina - Fall (Germany) conflict coach, international coach,

- Thomas P. Sotelo (USA) Chief Judge of the Fairfax County and District Family Court,

- Marialoise Gallozzi (USA) Chairman of the Board of the NVMS Conflict Resolution Center,

Daniel Rainey (USA) Lecturer in the Alternative Dispute Resolution ODR course at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, USA,

- Dan Wassink (USA) is a specialist in public development of the United States Peace Corps.

One of the highlights of the event were excursions to the natural attractions of Kazakhstan such as the Charyn and Black canyons, Lake Kolsai, the mountain ski resort "Shymkent" and the alpine skating rink "Medeu". These trips allowed the participants to enjoy the beauty of the Kazakh nature, helped to attract interest in the tourist places of Kazakhstan.

The International Summer School of Mediation demonstrated the importance of continuing and expanding professional cooperation in the field of mediation. The support and development of such initiatives contribute to the strengthening of international relations and professional development of negotiators, as well as the popularization of the institute of mediation in general.

The Institute of Mediation in Kazakhstan is developing dynamically, mediators help conflicting parties resolve any type of disputes, except for corruption crimes.
